New Delhi : The mega architectural temple complex
Aksharadham,
the mega architectural temple complex built near Nizamuddin
Bridge, in the capital, New Delhi, India which was inaugurated
by President A P J Abdul Kalam on 6th November 2005, dedicated
to the nation, makes every Indian proud. This massive mega
Akshardham Temple Complex explore an amazing world of Indian
culture ornate with 20,000 statues, floral motifs, arches
and exquisitely carved pillars. Spread over about 100 acres
on the banks of River Yamuna in east Delhi, the complex was
over four years in the making and cost Rs.2 billion, funded
by donations from followers of the influential Swaminarayan
sect. The architectural style is an imitation of the Akshardham
temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.
Akshardham
means the eternal, divine abode of the supreme God, the abode
of eternal values and virtues of Akshar as defined in the
Vedas and Upanishads where divine bhakti, purity and peace
forever pervades. The Akshardham experience is an enlightening
journey through India's glorious art, values and contributions
for the progress, happiness and harmony of mankind. This beautiful
141-foot monument, an architectural marvel in pink sand stone
and white marble, built without steel, consists of 234 ornately
carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangled shikhars, a
spectacular Gajendra Pith (plinth of stone elephants) and
20,000 murtis and has a statue of Lord Swamynarayan in the
sanctum sanctorum along with statues of India's great sadhus,
devotees, acharyas and divine personalities.

the past two decades, the Swaminarayan sect, which has followers
mainly in Gujarat and among Gujaratis abroad, has built over

is the second Akshradham temple in India. With a complex of
temples and shrines set amidst sprawling lawns, prayer halls
and spaces for meditation and communal gatherings, the Akshardham
Temple is a new landmark in the National Capital Region. Akshardham
