Evenings
at India Gate
India
Gate still retains its charm and people prefer
to spend their evenings lazing in the green carpet
lawns than to go for gizmo entertainment. The reason
for its everlasting charm can be attributed to the
fact that there are hardly any open places in Delhi
where an individual can have a good time without spending
any money.
The impeccable circular lawns are spread over many
acres. It is a perfect place to spend the evenings.
Also there is a boating club at the India Gate.
One can enjoy rowing the boat amidst the lighted India
Gate. The lit India gate is a spectacular sight worth
to be captured.
Visit the Amar Jawan Jyoti which is
a tribute to all those Jawans who laid their life
in the Independence struggle. A fire always burns
here in the memory of the brave soldiers.
India
Gate is favourite with the children. They love the
open space and the freedom to run around without the
apprehension of any traffic. Pradip and his friend
Harjeet come here in the evenings to play cricket.
They say, "We like to play cricket here as
there is lot of place and it is pleasant in the evenings
and also there is good lighting."
There are many pedlars selling Chana chor,
Gol gappas, Papars. You can relish those items.
And there are many madaris whose monkeys
will entertain you with different antics.
An
evening at India Gate is a mingle of diverse people
from all parts of Delhi. Everyone enjoy the lively
atmosphere. As Chawla an accountant, puts in, "I
earn 10, 000 a month and I cannot afford to take my
family for expensive dinner or to a movie. My two
small children expect me to take them out some where.
So once a week my wife cooks good food and we have
a picnic here."
Having an ice-cream at India Gate after dinner
has its own charm. "I like to come here with
my girlfriend at night and have ice cream sitting
on my car," says Pawan, a business man. The
most favourite ice cream here is the indigenous Chuski.
It is made out of grating ice and splashed with various
coloured flavours. There are numerous ice cream vendors
lined along the lawns. So take your favorite ice-cream
and stroll on the lawns of India Gate.
